Children & Schools Program
Our Aboriginal youth worker supports young Aboriginal people at high schools in the Northern suburbs of Hobart by providing guidance, cultural connection, and practical assistance to help them build confidence, stay engaged in education, and achieve their goals.
Our Youth Worker supports young people through providing:
- Emotional support – listening, encouragement, and guidance.
- Practical help – assistance with school, training, or employment pathways.
- Advocacy – speaking up for young people’s rights and needs.
- Cultural connection – supporting identity, belonging, and community links.
- Life skills – building confidence, problem-solving, and independence.
- Health and wellbeing support – linking to services, promoting healthy choices.
- Recreation and activities – creating safe spaces for socialising and growth.
- School Holidays – Collaboration with outside services to provide school holiday programs
Who can access this service?
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people attending Montrose Bay High School, Cosgrove High School or Hobart City High School.
Referral & Intake
- Young people and their families can request that their school to submit a referral to Karadi’s Children and Schools program
- Schools may also approach young people and their families to submit a referral to Karadi’s Children and Schools program.
Stay Upright Program
Karadi in collaboration with the Glenorchy City Council have worked together to deliver the Stay Upright program which gives young people between the ages 17 to 25 years old the opportunity to receive the training and a motorcycle learners licence. This program supports eight students per term. Each student receives their motorcycle learners licence paid for, three theory lessons and $400 worth bike protection gear from the local bike works store with council funding.
Who can access this service?
Any young person aged 17 to 25 years.
